In 2024, the People Powered Press was invited to install a major exhibition of Brico works in the roof space of Salts Mill, Saltaire for the annual Saltaire Arts Trail.

The exhibition marked the fifth anniversary of the creation of Brico. It included some recreated works from the previous years, and two new murals created in collaboration with local groups.

HOW QUEER TO BE SEEN AS INVISIBLE
In collaboration with Queer Saltaire
Created with members of the voluntary-led local community enabling LGBTQ+ individuals and allies from Saltaire and surrounding areas to connect.
Described by one of the participants as “a provocation to see people”, this mural explores the paradox experienced by many in the queer community that, in order to feel safe, it is necessary to be visible as queer, while that visibility can also bring with it a sense of vulnerability.

FEAR BUILDS WALLS BUILD –
Inspired by the creative writing of Hyde Park Source’s volunteer gardeners at Leeds Industrial Museum, this circular mural reads in a continuous loop.

With thanks to Saltaire Inspired for the invitation to stage the exhibition and for a generous financial contribution; and to all at Salts Mill.
